Scribble Your Stories: Queer Cartooning

‘Scribble it. Swap it. Make it Queer’.

Explore queer experience through collaborative cartooning, exchanging scribbles and stories with other participants, remixing them into unexpected single-panel comics that bring our unique experiences together.

How can a scribble become a story? Come along for a playful introduction to cartooning where there is no need to be “good” at drawing –  just bring yourself and your imagination!

We will use scribbles, doodles, and simple cartooning exercises to explore how images can communicate feelings, experiences, and queer stories. Through sharing, experimenting, and creating together, you’ll build confidence in your own creative process before collaborating on a single-panel comic that remixes different drawings and captions together.

This is a relaxed, welcoming space to play with drawing, connect with others and explore what can be expressed on the page.

This workshop is about play, connection, and expression. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable, and there is no expectation to produce a polished, final piece of work as we focus on process over perfect.

What to bring:

  • Yourself! All materials will be supplied. No previous drawing or cartooning experience is necessary. The session is designed as a welcoming, low-pressure creative space where people participate at their own pace.

Facilitated By Amelia

Amelia is a South-East London based cartoonist and illustrator. Her creative practice explores trans experience, childhood, nostalgia, fear, and magical realism. As a neurodiverse artist, she has often found alternate strategies to self-expression. Therefore, across her work there is a focus on creating a visual vocabulary with which to communicate with the world. She enjoys facilitating workshops to help folks tell stories and express themselves. Alongside her creative practice, she is also a Youth Worker for Gendered Intelligence.
